Case study £2 million donated to British Heart Foundation (BHF) We’ve continued our work with the British Heart Foundation’s Pack For Good campaign with donation points made available in all our properties. This year, we reached the milestone of £2 million-worth of items donated by our residents and colleagues and students. Our donations prevent items from being sent to landfill and help the BHF fund life-saving research into heart and circulatory diseases. We’ve also piloted BHF pop-up shops in some properties to encourage residents to donate and purchase secondhand clothes. THE ENVIRONMENT continued THE UNITE GROUP PLC Sustainability Report 2024 ENERGY PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATES We are committed to meeting the minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES) for Energy Performance Certificates (EPC). While a MEES target of C by 2030 has been set for the private rental sector, our properties are required to meet the non-domestic EPC MEES target of a B by 2030. However, the Government has announced intention to consult on an overhaul of the EPC system in 2025. In 2024, our overall EPC rating was 91.7% A-B rated. We will continue to target A ratings for all new build properties (which we achieved at our new property in Nottingham in 2024), and work to improve ratings at existing properties through capital investment with the aim of achieving our 2030 target of 100% A-B rated.
